Lucknow: UP BJP set the crucial organisational rejig in motion by appointing 70 district presidents, 45 of them new, in the state on Sunday. The development marked BJP’s vital poll positioning in the run-up to the high-stakes 2027 assembly elections when CM Yogi Adityanath would seek the third consecutive term. The party has divided UP into 98 organizational districts straddling across six regions-West, Braj, Awadh, Kashi, Gorakhpur, and Kanpur-Bundelkhand. The remaining 28 district presidents are expected to be announced in the next few days. Out of the 70 newly appointed district presidents, the majority of 39, or 56% of the total announced, are from the upper castes, while 25 and six are from the OBC and SC communities, respectively.
