Lucknow: Purchasing your private non-electric vehicle in Uttar Pradesh is set to be-come expensive as the state cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to increase the existing tax on vehicles costing above Rs 40,000 by one percentage point. The increase is only on vehicles purchased for personal use and commercial vehicles have been exempted from any tax hike. According to sources, the decision was made in ew of the losses incurred by the govt due to the subsidy being provided on electric vehicles. Transport minister Dayashankar Singh said that the tax hike would apply only on private vehicles, both two and four-wheelers, which cost more than Rs 40,000.
