Lucknow: After being implemented in various parts of the state, the Elgin Bridge formula, that saved many villages from annual floods, is set to save public money that was earlier spent annually on erection of studs and boulders.”Dredging work is currently on in Sharda river in Lakhimpur Kheri’s Pallia and Nighasan, the flooding area which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited on Apr 26, and Suhaili river in and around Dudhwa forest,” said engineer in chief, design and planning, Sandeep Kumar.”Dredging in Sharda is being carried out on a 9-km stretch and on Suhaili river it will be on a 16km stretch,” Kumar said.It all began when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Elgin Bridge area (Barabanki) in 2017 to understand the annual flood menace in the region. A detailed plan was discussed, and the officials informed the CM that studs and boulders would be erected to stop flood water from entering villages, as was being done in flood-prone areas annually. The amount to be spent on the project was estimated at Rs 11 .
