सर्वश्रेष्ठ सांसद का खिताब हासिल कर चुके जनता दल यूनाइटेड के अध्यक्ष शरद यादव ने इस सप्ताह एक बयान की वजह से अपनी फजीहत करा ली. 13 मार्च को संसद में महिलाओं पर उनकी टिप्पड़ी की आलोचना हुई. ज़्यादातर चैनलों ने इसे प्रमुखता से चलाया. अगले दिन अखबारों ने इसे प्रमुखता से छापा. अमर उजाला ने 14 मार्च को लिखा- दक्षिण भारतीय महिलाओं के बारे में जनता दल यूनाइटेड के अध्यक्ष शरद यादव की एक टिप्पणी पर विवाद पैदा हो गया है. आलोचकों ने इसे अश्लील और नस्लीय करार दिया है, वहीं यादव का कहना है कि वह केवल दक्षिण की महिलाओं की खूबसूरती बयां कर रहे थे. सर्वश्रेष्ठ सांसद का सम्मान हासिल कर चुके यादव ने बीमा विधेयक पर शुक्रवार को राज्यसभा में यह टिप्पणी की.
टाइम्स ऑफ़ इंडिया ने 14 मार्च को लिखा- Indignation, disgust and anger -their tone said it all as women activists decried JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav’s sexist comment on women from southern India in Rajya Sabha on Friday . What added to their shock was that the remark evoked laughter from some male members. Deviating from the debate on the insurance bill, the JD(U) president started talking about the Indian obsession with fair skin. “Your god is dark like Ravi Shankar Prasad (present in the House), but your matrimonial ads insist on white-skinned brides,“ he said. Yadav then commented on women from southern India, saying “The women of south are dark but they are as beautiful as their bodies … We don’t see it here. They know dance (too).“ Several male members could be seen bursting into laughter at the remark. MP Kanimozhi vociferously objected to the remark in the House before NCP’s Praful Patel and TMC MP Derek O’Brien calmed her down. Just as members started settling down, NCP’s DP Tripathi quoted Kalidas to say that the ideal beautiful woman is “slim and slightly wheatish“. On Friday , Kanimozhi told TOI that such words didn’t reflect on just one person but the attitude of people in general. नवभारत टाइम्स- इस बयान पर विवाद होने पर शरद यादव ने कहा, मेरे कहने का मतलब यह था कि साउथ में संगीत, कला और नृत्य की बड़ी परंपरा है, इसलिए उनका (महिलाओं का) फिगर अच्छा होता है. दैनिक जागरण- उन्होंने कहा था, ‘दक्षिण की महिला जितनी ज्यादा खूबसूरत होती है, उतना ही सुंदर उनका शरीर होता है. जितना अच्छा नृत्य वे (दक्षिण भारतीय महिलाएं) जानती हैं उतना हमारे इलाके की महिलाएं नहीं जानती हैं.’ यादव ने यह भी कहा था कि भारतीय गोरी चमड़ी पर किस तरह लट्टू होते हैं यह फिल्म निर्माता ब्रिटिश लेस्ली उडविन को देखकर पता चलता है, जिन्होंने निर्भया पर डॉक्युमेंट्री बनाई है. उन्हें जरूर उनकी गोरी चमड़ी की वजह से आसानी से इसकी (तिहाड़ जेल में शूटिंग की) इजाजत मिली होगी.
