अमूमन नेता अपने सियासी गुणागणित, तीन तिकड़मों, बयानों, घोटालों और विवादों के लिए खबरों में नज़र आते हैं लेकिन वीरप्पा मोइल्ली उन चंद नेताओं में से हैं जो अपनी साहित्यिक प्रतिभा के बल पर खबरों में नज़र आ जाते हैं. इस बार सरस्वती सम्मान के लिए उनका नाम टीवी और अखबारों में नज़र आया. हिन्दुस्तान ने लिखा- कन्नड लेखक और पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री डॉ.एम वीरप्पा मोइली को वर्ष 2014 के सरस्वती सम्मान से सम्मानित किया जाएगा. मोइली को यह सम्मान उनके महाकाव्य श्री रामायण महान्वेषण के लिए दिया जाएगा. केके बिरला फाउंडेशन ने सोमवार को बताया कि देश के पूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश रमेश चंद्र लाहोटी की अध्यक्षता वाली चयन परिषद ने वीरप्पा मोइली के कन्नड महाकाव्य श्री रामायण महान्वेषण को वर्ष 2014 के 24वें सरस्वती सम्मान के लिए चुना है. यह महाकाव्य 2007 में प्रकाशित हुआ था. मोइली सरस्वती सम्मान से सम्मानित होने वाले दूसरे कन्नड लेखक हैं. उनसे पहले 2010 में प्रो एसएल भैरप्पा को उनके उपन्यास मंद्र के लिए इस सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया था.
देशबंधु ने लिखा- मोइली को वर्ष 2007 में प्रकाशित कन्नड़ कविता की उनकी पुस्तक ‘श्री रामायण महान्वेषणम’ के लिए चुना गया है. डेक्कन हेराल्ड ने लिखा- Former Union minister and senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily has been selected for the prestigious Saraswati Samman for 2014 for his famous Kannada poem ‘Ramayana Mahanveshanam’. Divided into five volumes, ‘Ramayana Mahanveshanam’ was first published in 2007 in Kannada. The poem has been translated into English, Hindi, Telegu and Tamil. Instituted by the K K Birla Foundation in 1991, Saraswati Samman is given annually for an outstanding literary work in any Indian language mentioned in the Schedule VIII of the Constitution. The award carries a cash purse of Rs 10 lakh, a citation and a plaque. In the poem, Moily tried to explore the ‘Ramarajya’ or the true principle of the ‘ideal State’ from a secular and modern point of view, the Foundation said in a release. A senior Congress leader from Karnataka, who was also chief minister of the state, 75-year-old Moily is an established writer in Kannada who has authored four novels, three collections of poetry, a number of plays and numerous essays. द हिन्दू ने लिखा- In the poem, Moily tried to explore the ‘Ramarajya’ or the true principle of the ‘ideal State’ from a secular and modern point of view. डीएनए ने लिखा- A rare-politician literary figure, Moily handled many ministries in the previous UPA regime including Petroleum and Natural Gas, Corporate Affairs, Power and Law. He was chief minister of Karnataka from 1992 to 1994.
इस सम्मान के अलावा भी वीरप्पा मोइली की सियासत में भी इस सप्ताह सक्रियता जबरदस्त तरीके से बनी रही. मनमोहन सिंह के समर्थन में भी वीरप्पा मोइली खड़े नज़र आये. डीएनए ने लिखा- Senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily on Thursday said former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was known for his integrity and character, and added that if an innocent person can be hauled up in a criminal case for no offence at all, then the entire political system will be in jeopardy. बीबीसी ने अपनी वेबसाईट पर लिखा- Senior Congress party leader and former law minister Veerappa Moily said Mr Singh had told them that he “will fight it out” and “he is confident that he is innocent”.
