Lucknow: The Viksit UP-2047 Vision document lays out an elaborate plan to transform Uttar Pradesh into a largely urban state, featuring several smart cities, universal access to clean drinking water and pucca houses, modern public transport, and metro serviors.
The document outlines five strategic short-term targets for 2000. These include achieving 35% urbanization, creating three new regional economic zones, ensuring 100% access to drinking water, sanitation, electricity, and pucca houses, as well as achieving complete sewage treatment and scientific waste disposal in AMRUT cities. Over the next 22 years, the govt aims to urbanize UP to the extent that 60% of its population lives in cities. It also plans to develop 10 cities into globally competitive metros, including Luck now, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Agra, Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur and at least three of which are targeted to rank among the world’s top 50 most livable cities. “Special priority is being given to modernizing sewerage and waste management systems, The govt aims to establish scientifically advanced sewage treatment in all cities for the effective disposal of wastewater. A robust solid waste management mechanism is being developed to ensure systematic collection, recycling, and safe disposal.
